AI companion chatbots must maintain a self-harm crisis protocol (Washington)

Under Washington HB 2225 Section 5, an operator may not deploy an AI companion chatbot unless it maintains a protocol to detect and address suicidal ideation or self-harm (including eating disorders), refer users to crisis resources (suicide hotline / crisis text line), prevent content encouraging self-harm, and publicly disclose the protocol details plus annual crisis-referral counts. Detect an AI-companion path with no self-harm detection + crisis referral.

AI companion chatbots must disclose they are not human (Washington)

Under Washington HB 2225 Section 3, an operator must provide a clear and conspicuous disclosure that an AI companion chatbot is artificially generated and not human, at the beginning of the interaction and at least every three hours during continued interaction (every hour for known minors, §4), and must prevent the chatbot from claiming to be human even when asked. Detect an AI-companion path with no non-human disclosure or no recurring reminder.
